What problem are you hoping to solve?
Most people come to Sépilates with one of these on their mind. Here is how a session helps with each.
"I feel less steady on my feet."
Controlled single-leg and standing work helps you feel steadier and more sure-footed. The NHS says that if you have fallen or are worried about falling, exercises for strength, balance and flexibility help you feel stronger and more confident on your feet.
"My back and hips feel stiff."
Gentle, controlled work moves your spine, hips and shoulders through a fuller range at your own pace. Many people find it eases the stiffness of long days sitting. The springs on the Reformer can support a movement, so you are never forced.
"I get tired doing everyday things."
A strong centre supports everything you do, from carrying shopping to a round of golf. Sessions build strength step by step, with the springs set to suit you.
"I am worried about hurting myself."
Every session is private, so Sepideh watches every movement and adapts each exercise to what your body can do today. Where appropriate you may be asked for guidance from your GP or physiotherapist first.
"I have never done Pilates, or I have not exercised for years."
You need no experience and no particular fitness level. You learn the basics properly, one to one, with no one watching, starting with a £30 first session.
"I am getting back after an injury or an operation."
With your doctor's or physio's OK, sessions support rehabilitation-focused movement and post-recovery, at a pace that suits you. See Pilates for back pain and injury recovery.
How long will it take to feel a difference?
It depends on where you are starting from and what you want to change. Sepideh can advise you after your first session.
- The NHS advises strength, balance and flexibility work on at least 2 days a week for adults aged 65 and over
- Start with the £30 first session
- Then the 3-session Starter Bundle (£135, used within 6 weeks)
- Then choose a Class Pack or a monthly Membership
Pilates is not a medical treatment, and everyone is different, so there is no set timetable. In every session you get attention, a plan built around you and a pace you can manage.
What does the NHS recommend for adults aged 65 and over?
Adults aged 65 and over should aim to be active every day, do activities that improve strength, balance and flexibility on at least 2 days a week, and do at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week. Pilates is one of the activities the NHS lists for strengthening muscles.
- Be active every day, even lightly
- Strength, balance and flexibility, on at least 2 days (Pilates counts as strength work)
How does a Pilates session work on strength, balance and flexibility?
Most of the exercises you would do at home work on one thing at a time. A private session brings all three together.

Can Pilates help with balance and falls?
The NHS says exercises to improve strength, balance and flexibility help make you stronger and feel more confident on your feet if you have fallen or are worried about falling.
- See a GP if you are worried about your balance or mobility, or you have had a fall
- A GP can refer you to a specialist falls service, and in many areas you can refer yourself
- Pilates does not replace that help, but it can sit alongside it
- Tell Sepideh about any falls, injuries, conditions, medication or medical advice before your first session

What is the Reformer, and why do the springs matter?
A Reformer has a carriage that slides on a frame, with springs you can change. That is what lets the work be adjusted to you. You can also read about the Cadillac, a padded table with a frame, straps and springs for assisted stretching.

Older adults: your questions
I feel unsteady on my feet. Can Pilates help?
Controlled single-leg and standing work helps you feel steadier. The NHS says exercises for strength, balance and flexibility help you feel stronger and more confident on your feet if you have fallen or are worried about falling. If you have had a fall, see your GP, and tell Sepideh about it before your first session.
How long will it take to feel a difference?
It depends on where you are starting from and your goals, and Sepideh can advise you. The NHS advises strength, balance and flexibility work on at least 2 days a week for adults aged 65 and over. Start with the £30 first session, then the 3-session Starter Bundle (£135, used within 6 weeks), to find out how it feels.
Is Pilates suitable for over 60s and over 70s?
Pilates is slow, controlled and low impact, and every session at Sépilates is private and adapted to your body. The NHS says to speak to a GP first if you have not exercised for some time, or if you have medical conditions or concerns.
I have never done Pilates. Do I need to be fit or flexible?
No. You do not need any experience and no particular fitness level. You learn the basics properly, one to one, with no one watching.
I find it hard to get down to the floor. Can I still come?
Tell Sepideh when you book. Every session is private and adapted to what your body can do today, so the exercises can be chosen to suit you. Email [email protected] to talk it through first.
I have a medical condition or an old injury. Is that a problem?
Please tell Sepideh about it when you book. Sessions are not medical treatment, and where appropriate you may be asked to get guidance from your GP, physiotherapist or consultant before you start.
Will it hurt, or will I be pushed too hard?
No. Every exercise is chosen for your body and how you feel that day, and nothing is rushed or jarring. Pilates is low impact, and you can stop or change anything in the session.
Can I come with my husband, wife or a friend?
Yes. Duet 2:1 is private Pilates for two, for £35 each, with personal attention for each of you.
How much does it cost?
